EL ALFABETO
One of the most basic foundations of a language is its alphabet.
Aquí están los hechos (Here are the facts):
1. The Spanish alphabet can be called "El Alfabeto" or "El Abcedario."
2. Just as in the English alphabet there are vowels (las vocales) and consonants (las consonantes).
3. According to the Real Academia Española (The institution that regulates the Spanish language), the Spanish alfabeto consists of 29 letters in total. Therefore, there are three additional letters in the Spanish alphabet.
4. These letters are CH (che), LL, (ay yay), and Ñ (en yay).
5. The letters CH and LL are special because they are double letters, these are call dígrafos.
6. At one point the letter RR (er re) had been considered a separate letter as well. You might still learn this letter when practicing El Alfabeto.
